iRAPP Terminal Server Case Study: Amtec

Amtec is a large consulting and technology company in the United Kingdom. Their use scenario is detailed below, as told by their IT Manager.

Client Testimonial:

"We have been acquired this year by another larger company and they wish to migrate us to Windows systems the same as the rest of their organisation. We however have a FileMaker system developed over many years which manages several aspects of the business and having been developed (for use with Macs) over such a long time it relies on many commands and scripts that would not work natively in FileMaker for Windows. We are therefore going to be using iRAPP Terminal Server to provide a way for Windows PCs to access and 'run' the Mac version of FileMaker.

Using a Terminal Server solution like iRAPP saves us from having to substantially re-write the FileMaker system which would have been an enormous task and allows us to meet our new owner’s requirements of switching to using Windows computers.

Having tested iRAPP we find it does indeed work as claimed, it is even possible with the Remote Desktop Connection client in Windows to exchange data via the clipboard between the Windows PC and the Terminal Server (Mac) session.

While the redrawing of the screen image is satisfactory on a local LAN connection, we have found it is slower than would be desirable over a remote link. Part of this may be due to iRAPP not supporting optimisation options that Windows RDC clients offer, for example iRAPP does not support disabling the drawing of the desktop background. This would certainly be an area we would like to see improved so as to provide a better experience for our remote users.

Code Rebel has been extremely helpful during the time period we had to test their product with our systems and has responded promptly to email queries."
