INSTALLATION
What are the system requirements for iRAPP?

I have installed iRAPP but cannot access my Mac. What is wrong?
Make sure that both your Mac and PC have working network connection using cable or wireless connection, and your PC has network access to your Mac. If your network has a firewall then you need to check that it permits incoming connection to your Mac to port 4073 via TCP. You can see the current address of your Mac in "System Preferences => iRAPP Server" dialog box. Make sure that your iRAPP Server is started and active in "System Preferences => iRAPP Server".
COPY/PASTE TEXT AND GRAPHICS
How do I copy text or graphics between Mac and PC applications?
There is no special functionality to copy/paste within iRAPP. You just need to use standard menu items or shortcuts for Windows and Mac applications to copy/paste images and text through the clipboard. But please note that shortcuts may be different for Windows and Mac. The standard combination to Copy/Paste on the Mac is Cmd+C/Cmd+V. The same operations for Windows are Ctrl+C/Ctrl+V.
For example to copy some text from a Mac application to a Windows application you need to:
-
Select the text on the Mac application
-
Press Cmd+C (or select "Copy" in the "File" menu)
-
Click with a mouse into a target PC application
-
Press Ctrl+V (or select "Paste" in the "File" menu)
Where is Cmd key on the Windows keyboard?
iRAPP version 1.0 uses the following strong key mapping for service keys:
| PC | Mac | |
|---|---|---|
| Caps Lock | => | Caps Lock |
| Shift | => | Shift |
| Control(Ctrl) | => | Control(Ctrl) |
| Option(Alt) | => | Alt |
| Start(Win) | => | Command(Cmd) |
We plan to add user configurable key-mapping in the future iRAPP versions.
MAC WORKSPACE ON THE WINDOWS DESKTOP
What does the "Workspace" mean?
"Workspace" is an area on the Windows desktop that mirrors the menus, desktop shortcuts and application windows from the remote Mac device.
What can I do with Workspace?
You can do the following actions:
-
Resize the workspace using hooks at the left corner or right corner of the top of the Mac application menu-bar.
-
Move the workspace. Just hook the yellow session title-bar or Mac menu-bar with a mouse and move it to a desired location.
-
Maximize workspace to the full desktop size on the current monitor.
- If the remote desktop size on the Mac does not meet the local desktop size on PC then the Mac windows will be stretched on the Windows desktop.
- If the option "Constrain proportions" is enabled in the "Workspace Options" then Mac windows will constrain proportions on the Windows desktop. Otherwise Mac windows will be stretched disproportionately.
- To show the workspace with original Mac desktop size, use "Reset Workspace Size" action.
-
Minimize/Restore workspace.
How many Workspaces can I have at the same time on my PC?
You can connect to any number of Mac’s simultaneously but make sure that your PC hardware can process such potentially high CPU, graphics-card and memory loading.
How do I switch between multiple sessions to the Mac computers from my single PC?
Right click on the iRAPP icon in the PC Systems Tray and select which Mac device (or which Mac account) you want to display.
MULTI-MONITOR DISPLAYS
Does iRAPP support a multi-monitor environment?
Yes, you can move the Workspace to any monitor. You can also assign a specific monitor to a specific Mac session (e.g. if you have two Macs running, you can have Mac 1 assigned to one monitor, and Mac 2 to a second monitor).
iRAPP MAC SERVER
How many simultaneous users can a single Mac support?
That's a bit of a complex question that depends on several factors: what Mac you have, how powerful is the Mac processor, how much RAM memory you have on the Mac, and finally, it depends on how resource-intensive are the applications you intend to use. While a single Mac can support quite a few users simultaneously, in general, if you notice that the applications are responding significantly slower than normal, you probably have too many users accessing it simultaneously.
What TCP/IP port does iRAPP use?
By default, iRAPP server listens on TCP port 4073. If with your network setup, you face the task of forwarding ports through your router then you need to forward connections to this port of your Mac.
How to change the listening port for iRAPP Server?
To change the port that iRAPP Server listens on, follow these steps:
- Click on Apple menu => System Preferences => iRAPP Server
- Click the lock icon and please authorize yourself
- Uncheck box "Use Default Port"
- Enter new port number in Server Port entry field
- Press Apply Now
Which screen resolutions can be set on the Mac during iRAPP session?
Generally iRAPP simply mirrors the Mac OS X Graphics system. "iRAPP Server" can provide any screen resolution and iRAPP Client can show the workspace with this resolution. However, iRAPP can set only screen resolutions that Mac OS X allows on the current hardware and software. Also Mac OS X has some graphics restrictions for hidden user sessions which depends on the current resolution of the user session that currently is visible on the Mac monitor. All of the above reasons forces iRAPP to provide restricted resolutions list to the PC-side.
For example:
The current visible resolution is 1680 x 1050. In a case where iRAPP connects to the user session that is not visible on the remote screen, then Mac OS X allows only a restricted resolutions list:
- 800 x 600
- 1024 x 768
- 1680 x 1050
In a case where iRAPP connects to the current visible session then Mac OS X allows a full non-restricted resolutions list:
- 800 x 600
- 840 x 524
- 1024 x 640
- 1024 x 768
- 1280 x 800
- 1344 x 840
- 1680 x 1050
Unfortunately, at this time we have not found a solution to break the Mac OS X restrictions for hidden sessions.
