1.2 Quick Install

The iRAPP setup is a two steps process. First, iRAPP Server must be installed on the Mac computer that will be accessed remotely. Second, iRAPP Client must be installed on a Window based computer from which the Mac computer will be accessed. This second step can be omitted if a third party RDP software is used to access the Mac server.

Installing iRAPP Server

  • The setup package contains a "dmg" file. Simply load it on the Mac computer and follow the on-screen instructions.
  • At the end of the installation process, you will be asked to run the License Manager. An active license is required before iRAPP Server can be used. A trial or full license should have been emailed to your address when you downloaded the setup package.
  • From the License Manager screen, select "Load" to navigate to your license file and open it. Once loaded, the manager will automatically activate your license.
  • Reboot your computer and iRAPP Server is now ready to use.

Installing iRAPP Client and Connecting to iRAPP Server

  • The setup package contains an "exe" file. Simply execute it on the client PC and follow the on-screen instructions.
  • At the end of the installation process, you'll be given the option to "launch" iRAPP Client.
  • In the iRAPP Client window, type the address of the remote computer or click on "More" to view a list of locally available iRAPP Servers and click on "Connect".
  • Provide a valid user name and password (these should matched an active account on the remote Mac). Eh voila! Your Mac and PC are now one. Simple.

Using a Third Party RDP Client Software

Want to access a remote Mac from another Mac? No time to install iRAPP client on a PC? You can still access any iRAPP server. Here's how:

  • The client computer must have a Remote Desktop Protocol software installed. Most standard installations of Windows include the MS RDP software. It should be accessible under the menu: Start > All Programs > Accessories > Communications > Remote Desktop Connection.
  • Not using Windows? Here are free download recommendations:
    • Mac - either CoRD (available at http://cord.sourceforge.net) or MS Remote Desktop Connection Client for Mac 2 (available from www.mircrosoft.com).
    • Unix - Rdesktop (available at www.rdesktop.org).
  • Once a local RDP software is available:
    1. Launch the RDP software.
    2. Provide the address of the iRAPP server.
    3. When prompted, enter a valid user name and password (matching an active account on the remote Mac).
    4. Done!
